Just spent 4hrs making this , the sauce is amazing, the beef after 3hrs came out dry , and the recipe from the book and the video are very different. The mushrooms are what put a smile on my face , but this was definitely not worth the effort. All in all love your videos , and they keep giving me the motivation to get in the kitchen and try something new. Thank you Andrew

Thats a complex boeuf bourguignon. It is usually done by quickly cooking the meating, setting it aside then basically throw everything on the stove and letting it simmer, including the potatoes and mushrooms !

I see you are a man of culture Babish. My favorite dish of all time is also a beef stew, though it’s not technically Beef Bourguignon. I slave over some beef stew, get it a little extra thicc, and then spoon it into some side-sliced French Bread for a sloppy ass sandwhich... Easily a last-meal request for me.

The only problem I have with this recipe is the lack of sauce. The beef bourguignon I had in france, my favorite so far, was as good as it was because everything was swimming in their own juices when served, meaning I could also dip some bread. Ol' July makes a mean bourguignon but it can never top the OG for me.

You made ONE MISTAKE. The small onions get braised with equal amounts of olive oil & butter. It gives the onions, when served on its own, a fabulous taste.

My mom is Belgian so I grew up eating boeuf bourguignon, it's a dish close to my heart. I might just make some now... The only difference is that she would add bouquet garni (spice mix) and a bit of dijon mustard to the stew.

The second time I made Julia's beef burgundy I didn't check the parsley when buying or preparing it. Let's just say cilantro is exactly the most wrong thing to add to this dish 😣

MrTonydetiger76 I disagree with the comment that cilantro (Corriander) belongs to trash bin. Because it is widely used in Indian cuisine and suits really well. At the time of Julia Child, Indian cuisine was not that popular. But now it is loved by many across the world. I believe, if Julia Child were of this time, she will not make that comment given the flavor Corriander (seeds, powder and fresh) adds to Indian dishes. 😊
